Can I use a song in my YouTube video if I credit the artist?
I make travel videos and want to use a popular song in the background. I planned to credit the artist in the description. Is that enough?

Usually not. Giving credit does not replace permission. A recorded song typically involves two sets of rights: the composition (music and lyrics) and the sound recording. Using it generally requires a licence covering both, unless an exception applies.
Exceptions such as fair use or fair dealing are narrow and depend on the specific facts; background music in a video is rarely covered. Platforms may also mute, block or demonetise videos through automated claims.
Safer options include royalty-free or production music libraries with clear licences, or music licensed through the platform’s own audio library.
