How do I fix an error on my credit report?
My credit report shows a late payment on a loan I always paid on time. It is affecting my ability to rent an apartment. How do I get it removed?

In many systems you can dispute inaccurate information directly with the credit reporting agency, which must then investigate, usually within a set period. Tips:
- Dispute in writing and include copies (not originals) of proof, such as bank statements showing on-time payments.
- Also notify the lender that reported the information.
- Keep copies of everything you send and receive.
If the error is not corrected after a proper dispute, consumer-protection laws may allow you to seek damages, sometimes including legal fees.
This is general information, not legal advice — speak to a licensed lawyer about your situation.
