Do I need a civilian lawyer if I am facing a court-martial?
I am active duty and have been told charges may be referred. I have been assigned military defense counsel. Should I also hire a civilian lawyer?

Service members facing court-martial are generally entitled to free military defense counsel, and many of them are experienced and capable. You may also hire a civilian lawyer at your own expense, and the two can work together.
People consider civilian counsel when the case is complex, when they want a lawyer with a particular trial background, or when they want continuity if military counsel is reassigned. It is a personal choice, not a requirement.
Whatever you decide, do not discuss the allegations with anyone in your chain of command or investigators without speaking to your counsel first.
