Can I get a copy of my own medical records?
I asked my clinic for my records and they said it could take a long time and there would be a fee. Do I have a right to them?

In many countries, patients have a legal right to access their own health records, subject to limited exceptions. In the US, for example, federal privacy rules give individuals a right of access, with time limits for the provider to respond and limits on what can be charged.
Make your request in writing, keep a copy, and ask for the records in the format you want (electronic or paper). If the provider does not respond within the permitted time, you can usually complain to the relevant privacy or health regulator.
