Someone copied my photos and is using them on their website — what can I do?

I am a photographer and found several of my images on a company website without permission or credit. What are my options?

Common steps include:

  • Take dated screenshots showing the use and the page address.
  • Gather proof that you created the images, such as original files and metadata.
  • Send a polite but firm request to remove or license the images.
  • Use the hosting provider’s or platform’s takedown process if the site does not respond.

Whether you can claim compensation, and how much, depends on local copyright law and sometimes on whether the work was registered. A lawyer can advise before you threaten litigation.

This is general information, not legal advice — speak to a licensed lawyer about your situation.
