Do I have to pay the judgment while my appeal is pending?
I am appealing a money judgment. The other side says they can start collecting now. Is that true even though I appealed?

Filing an appeal does not automatically stop collection in many courts. To pause enforcement, the losing party often has to ask for a “stay” and post a bond or other security, commonly called a supersedeas or appeal bond.
The bond amount is often based on the judgment plus interest and costs. Some courts allow alternatives, such as pledging property, if a bond is unaffordable.
Ask your lawyer about a stay as early as possible, because collection steps can begin quickly after judgment.
